Surprising! Erotic! Shocking!

AJF Live with Keith Lewis

Wednesday, November 29, 12 p.m. EST

Keith Lewis was born in the wilds of Pennsylvania. He now lives in the wilds of Eastern Washington, where he teaches at Central Washington University. His jewelry deals with sexual identity, memory, loss, and jewelry as polemic. Sometimes shocking, frequently erotic, and surprisingly moving, Lewis’s jewelry is an act of remembering and witnessing. It joyously asserts that desire and pleasure, wonderful ends in themselves, can collapse historical distance and connect the past and the present.

His favorite tool is a Craftsman brand machinist’s reamer that belonged to his father. As an object it is completely beautiful: tapered, fluted, sharp and poised. It is also singularly specific in its usefulness. It makes holes bigger and is good for nothing else.

You'll get to meet one of the most influential jewelers in queer and identity politics in the US as we celebrate the publication of the new book, Dead Souls: Desire and Memory in the Jewelry of Keith Lewis, by Damian Skinner. During the event, we’ll raffle two books, hot off the press! You must be present to win.
